MAKRO
Goldberg and Other Variations – From Bach to Charlie Parker
With vibrant playfulness and virtuosic curiosity, Max Eisinger (violin) and Lukas Kroczek (cello) – together known as MAKRO – embark on a journey through eras and genres, from Baroque to Bebop.
The common thread throughout the program is a series of recurring improvisations on Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations, interwoven with iconic works such as Paganini’s Caprice No. 24, Charlie Parker’s Ornithology, and Behind Blue Eyes by The Who. High-energy original compositions blur the lines between classical music, rock, and free improvisation even further.
In a musical dialogue that spans past and present, structure and freedom, composition and improvisation, Max Eisinger and Lukas Kroczek push the sonic possibilities of their string instruments to the extreme: the violin becomes a guitar, the cello transforms into a drum set. On stage, they whistle, sing—and perhaps even dance.
A one-of-a-kind concert experience for jazz and classical music lovers with a spirit of discovery and a good dose of humor.
Max Eisinger, Violin
Max Eisinger was born in 1993 in Munich and began playing the violin at the age of 5. Through klezmer music, he discovered his love for improvisation, which eventually led him to jazz. At 11 years old, he made his debut at the Munich Philharmonic, and regular appearances as a soloist, jazz, and orchestral musician shaped his childhood and youth. He has performed with the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Young German Philharmonic, the Stegreif Orchestra Berlin, the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen, and numerous jazz formations, including gypsy jazz guitarists Stochelo Rosenberg and Diknu Schneeberger, as well as saxophonist Mulo Francel (Quadro Nuevo).
Max studied classical violin, jazz, and composition in Nuremberg, Hanover, Warsaw, and Amsterdam. His engagements as a musician and composer have taken him to Austria, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, Israel, Poland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Since 2021, he has been a lecturer at the Academy of Theater and Dance in Amsterdam. He is also a sought-after instructor for chamber music and improvisation at the Weikersheim Music Academy, the University of Music, Theater and Media in Hanover, at the Jugend Musiziert national competition, and at the Music Swap Lab of the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen, with which he received the OPUS KLASSIK in 2021.
Lukas Kroczek, Cello
Lukas Kroczek was born in 1987 in Poland and began his first cello lessons at the age of 5. At 15, he was accepted as a young student at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, before continuing his education with studies at the Nuremberg University of Music with Prof. Siegmund v. Hausegger in 2007.
He is a prizewinner of Jugend Musiziert and the chamber music competition of the Mozart Society Nuremberg. He has played with the Lower Bavarian Philharmonic, the Nuremberg Symphonists, and has been a member of the Feuerbach Quartet since 2013, touring Germany and Europe. Lukas teaches as an instrumental teacher and lecturer at various music schools in Bavaria, at the Weikersheim Music Academy, for Jeunesse Musicales, the Beethoven Society Bonn, and the German Music Council. He is a regular jury member at renowned chamber music and solo competitions.
